AI Literacy Pathway¶
A self-paced introduction to artificial intelligence (AI) in plain language, with no math. Each module is short, points to the relevant material on this site and beyond, ends with a short self-check, and stands alone.
- Modules 1 to 6, the foundations, are for everyone, in order: what these systems are, how to direct them, a short guide to the university's policy, how AI affects your learning, its effects beyond your own work, and a plan of your own. Together they take about 75 minutes.
- Modules 7 to 9 go deeper for your role, 9 to 12 minutes each. Take the ones that match your work.
- Module 10, on working with agents, is optional, for when the basics feel comfortable. Four optional hands-on guides follow it.
All ten modules take about 120 minutes, and the hands-on guides add about 50 minutes. Seven of the ten modules open with a short narrated film, and so do several of the guides; The Hub's Films gathers them on one page.

A solid line means in order, separate stops mean pick what fits, and a dashed line means optional. Numbered stops are the modules; open dots are the hands-on guides. Every module also stands alone: the stages are the recommended order, not a requirement.
The Reference Shelf¶
Six pages that sit alongside the modules.
- How LLMs Work, in Depth Large language models (LLMs), one level down
- Getting Better Answers Context, memory, and standing instructions; Module 10 assumes it
- Glossary The AI terms the pathway uses
- Common Misconceptions Calibrating trust by task
- The Hub's Films Every film on the site, playable on one page
- Courses and Resources External courses for when you finish
Routes by Audience¶
Every route starts with the foundations, Modules 1 to 6, and adds what fits your work. The times count the reading, any film, and a minute for each self-check question.
Pre-medical students. The foundations, then Module 8: Research and Scholarship, How LLMs Work, in Depth, and Common Misconceptions: about 105 minutes in all.
Medical students. The foundations, then Module 9: Clinical Contexts, with Module 8: Research and Scholarship when you join a research project: about 85 minutes, or about 95 minutes with Module 8.
Faculty. The foundations, then Module 7: Teaching and Assessment and Module 8: Research and Scholarship, with Module 9: Clinical Contexts if you teach clinically: about 95 minutes, or about 105 minutes with Module 9.
About This Pathway¶
The university's AI Responsible Use Policy commits the American University of Antigua to providing training resources on responsible AI use. This pathway is the AI Hub's contribution to that commitment, maintained by the Associate Dean of AI in Medical Education.
What it aligns with. The pathway's coverage is mapped to the Artificial Intelligence Competencies for Medical Educators, the framework compiled by the Central Group on Educational Affairs (CGEA) Faculty Development Special Interest Group and published through the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). Each module notes the competency domains it serves at its foot. Modules 1 to 9 cover all eight of its domains, including Continuous Professional Development in AI, an educator's own ongoing learning, which Module 6's plan serves; Module 10 deepens Working with AI and Critical Appraisal of AI Outputs.
What it is not. Completing the pathway does not certify anything; it is here to make you a more capable user of these tools. Programs that require it, such as the pre-medical program, set their own requirements.
